Abstract

In the second quarter of 2013, following the release of Intel's Haswell family of CPUs (Central Processing Units) and 8-series chipsets in June, the initially launched products were mainly based on Haswell Core i7 and i5 mobile CPUs according to the company's product l plans. Desktop PCs based on Intel's mainstream Core i3 and entry-level Pentium CPUs are slated for rollouts in upcoming September. During the second quarter, the transitional period between older and new platforms, branded vendors have faced pressure to clear inventories and thus have postponed the pull-in demand until June. The effect of pull-in demand on the second quarter's shipment volume was refrained. The Taiwanese desktop PC shipment volume in the second quarter of 2013 is anticipated to have slipped 5.4% sequentially, to around 13.57 million units.
